Wire closet shelving can be dangerous if you have children.

Young children and wire closet shelving can be a dangerous combination. Children like to climb. They also like to hang from things. Wire closet shelving is designed to hold a significant amount of weight, however, the clothes that you hang on the rods and the items that you store on the shelves do not move. If young children climb on the shelves and swing from the rods, the shifting weight can pull the unit loose and away from the wall. The entire unit, including anything that is hung on the rods or placed on the shelves, may land on top of your child. This could seriously injure the child. If you have shelving of this type and small children, you should consider replacing the unit with shelving that is more stable and stationary. Another alternative is installing doorknobs that lock and do not enable the child to enter the closet.
