I was watching a television program the other day called “The Real Hustle”, you may have seen it. I mention it now because it demonstrates the point I want to make about keeping your wireless network secure. A team of ‘hustlers’ equipped a van with a computer and some networking hardware and software. They then drove around a normal housing etate to see who was using a wireless network. They found 7 in total and only one of these had suitable wireless network security software. To demonstrate this they hacked into one network and watched a man buy an item from the internet using his credit card. They also watched him book a 2 week holiday abroad. So not only did they have his credit card details but they new when he was going to be away from his house. After printing out prrof of this they knocked on his door and confronted him with what they had done. He was at first angry but soon realised that had this been a team of real criminals his lack of security software for his wireless network could have cost him dearly.
