What is the current tea party movement and why is Ron Paul involved in it?

Can someone please explain what the point is for the current tea party movement. What does it hope to accomplish and why do people protest it? Also, Why is someone like Ron Paul affiliated with it?

    ‘Tea baggers’ are for smaller government and less government waste. Ron Paul is affiliated because he’s a libertarian and those are big issues for libertarians.

    Paul started the Tea Party back during the election. He set a fund raising record on Dec 16th which was the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.

    Since then the GOP and Palin have co-opted it. Now its just an stupid mob.

    The Tea Party is an astroturf movement created by Fox fictional News and far right leaning racist. I don’t know what Ron Paul would have to do with it.

    It is a group of people who are demanding that the government represent the people instead of special interests.
    Ron Paul, or any other politician is welcome if they want the people to regain control of the government.
